چکیده

In this paper, we report the first experimental results on capillary shear flows of a nematic liquid crystal 5CB (4-cyano-4′-pentylbiphenyl), arising due to interaction anisotropic liquid, correspondent continuous rotational symmetry, with photo-profiled polymer surfaces. The regular surface relief was obtained opto-mechanical deformation azobenzene containing potoresponsive film (PAZO) during irradiation two-beam interference. Such treatment makes it possible obtain submicron profile well-defined characteristics (direction, period, and height). polarizing microscopy (PM) dynamic light scattering (DLS) techniques were used determine direction orientation LC anchoring strength, which characterize surface. Two types flows—spreading droplets flow in plane capillary, induced by one or two surfaces—were investigated for different directions relative relief. Strong anisotropy dynamics precursor contact line motion, as well dynamical angle, established. analyzed compared those previously at investigation spreading over mechanically stamped capillaries photo-aligned

Rheology of defect networks in cholesteric liquid crystals.

The rheological properties of cholesteric liquid crystals containing networks of defects are investigated. A network of linear defects of the "oily-streak" type is stabilized when colloidal particles are dispersed into the cholesteric liquid crystals. This network converts the rheological response of a presheared cholesteric liquid crystal from fluidlike to solidlike and leads to the formation ...

Rheology of twist-grain-boundary-A liquid crystals.

We report studies on the rheological properties of a liquid crystalline analog of Abrikosov phase in type-II superconductors known as twist-grain-boundary-A (TGB(A)) phase. The TGB(A) phase shows a large apparent yield stress compared to the cholesteric (N*) phase. The storage modulus (G') of the TGB(A) phase is significantly larger than the loss modulus (G''). The dynamic relaxation measuremen...

Rheology of nematic liquid crystals with highly polar molecules.

We report experimental studies on the rheology of a few nematic liquid crystals with highly polar molecules (CCH-7, PCH-7, CB-7). The selected molecules have the same alkyl chain (-C(7)H(15)) and cyano (-CN) end group. In the core part of the molecule, CCH-7 has two cyclohexane rings, PCH-7 has one cyclohexane and one aromatic ring, and CB-7 has two aromatic rings. Two viscosities were measured...

Photo-Induced Vertical Alignment of Liquid Crystals via In Situ Polymerization Initiated by Polyimide Containing Benzophenone

Vertical alignment of liquid crystal (LC) was achieved in an easy and effective way: in situ photopolymerization of dodecyl acrylate (DA) monomers initiated by polyimide based on 3,3′,4,4′-benzophenonetetracarboxylic dianhydride and 3,3′-dimethyl-4,4′-diaminodiphenyl methane (BTDA-DMMDA PI). The alignment behavior and alignment stabilities were characterized by a polarizing optical microscope (...

Blue phase liquid crystals stabilized by linear photo-polymerization

Stabilizing a photopolymer-embedded blue phase liquid crystal precursor with linearly polarized UV light is investigated experimentally. When the UV polarization axis is perpendicular to the stripe electrodes of an in-plane-switching cell, anisotropic polymer networks are formed through the linear photo-polymerization process and the electrostriction effect is suppressed. As a result, the measu...
